When you think of Sri Lanka, this remote island, images arise
immediately before those of men and women:
these are the fields and spice gardens,
beaches lined with coconut palms, these beautiful tea plantations undulate
to infinity on the mountainsides, but the sunken cities
by jungle and today returned to civilization, Buddhist temples,
the huge statues of the Reclining Buddha …
