Thiri Mingalar Market is a large market just outside the center of Yangon northwest of the city. I had already gone to take some photos in 2017. The atmosphere is very special and no tourist venture on this market, especially known locals and again … this year, I had a lot of trouble with my driver. taxi to find the Thiri Mingalar Market and this despite the many stops to ask our way.
Once there, I rediscover huge covered halls where are mainly selling flowers, fruits, vegetables and dried fish.
The part “flowers” occupies several halls sheltered from the sun, but also without too much light which represents a small difficulty for the shooting. A hectic and feverish atmosphere around hundreds of bouquets of flowers. Buyers leave with bouquets neatly packaged in newsprint loaded on scooter bikes. Chinlon players enjoy a break to do some exchanges. Some young monks from a monastery come to search the aisles, one behind the other, and collect donations or food. But what interests me the most is to find interesting characters to photograph and which are part of this very special market setting.
Many bike and scooter drivers wait a little outside the aisles as it is the preferred means of transportation for buyers and merchandise more than a taxi. Each bike has a small bouquet of flowers in the middle of the handlebars.
Some wash in a corner of the market after a morning of hard work.
